Description
You can walk around it in an hour and a half along a shaded and marked pedestrian path of around 5 km. Lake Issarlès is also used by EDF to power the Montpezat-sous-Bauzon hydroelectric power station. It is connected via underground galleries to the reservoirs on the Loire (Palisse dam) and two of its tributaries on the Ardèche plateau, the Gage (Moulin de Peyron dam) and the Veyradeyre (Grange dam). The waters of the Atlantic slope thus flow towards the Fontaulière river, a tributary of the Ardèche (Mediterranean slope). Outside of the summer period devoted to tourism, hydroelectric production causes a significant tidal range at the lake level.
