Description
Starting point: from the resort, take the forest track that leads to the Croix de Millet, beginning to the left of the technical building. After 200m, you'll cross the Combes piste, just before passing under its ski lift. Continue for 2km through a vast fir forest to the Camarets crossroads (picnic area).
The Camarets:
We set off on the Tanargue forest road and walk in a straight line for 500m.
La Grangette:
At the hairpin bend, we turn left to climb the only steep section of the route. Once on the ridge (1,460 m), we become accustomed to this circular view that plunges over the Beaume valley, as we advance to the summit of Méjean (1,458 m).
Méjean:
Méjean means "middle," as it is located in the middle of the Tanargue mountain range. The village seen below is Valgorge. We continue for about 5 km towards Mont Aigu (its peak distinguishes it from the other summits), which we will not reach today, as we turn back at the Col des Langoustines.
Langoustine Pass:
The name given to certain grasshoppers that can be seen in summer on these moors. The valley now overlooking us on the right is that of the Lignon, with the village of La Souche below. Forests of beech (called fayards here, from the Old French fagus) and fir trees on the slopes will then follow one another, interspersed here and there by the impressive scree slopes of the Cévennes.
Lioure Greenhouse:
Among the boulders, you can see saxifrage (a scree plant), which blooms in late June in large, immaculate carpets. In the few streams you cross, you might even spot Cévennes rockcress, a lilac-colored flower that spreads its colonies in the hollows of springs emerging on the slopes of the Tanargue.
The Frayt:
The last kilometer of this moving hike is the same as the start.
