Description

36.000 years ago, in a deep cave, the first artists in the history of Humanity painted a masterpiece: horses, lions, rhinoceroses and many other animals captured from life, hunting , running or confronting each other.

Discovered in 1994, the Chauvet cave, which revolutionized the history of art and mentalities, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its replica, the Chauvet 2 – Ardèche cave, opened in 2015, today allows the public to discover the first great masterpiece of Humanity.

An unmissable cultural destination a stone's throw from the Gorges de l'Ardèche and Pont-d'Arc, it has established itself as the most visited cultural site in Ardèche.

A visit to the cave invites you on a journey to the origins of art, to an immersion in Prehistory.

On the site, other discoveries await you, such as the Aurignacian Gallery which completes the visit to the replica and allows you to better understand who our ancestors were, their art and their environment, in an immersive and interactive scenography.

The large exhibition and performance hall is currently presenting “Animal, from prehistory to street art”, an immersive experience with 360° sound and light. A magical spectacle with a universal language, an invitation to move into the heart of a monumental fresco animated and enhanced by an original musical composition!

Throughout the year, a cultural program, conferences, workshops and events allow you to prolong the experience and rediscover the immemorial gestures of our ancestors.

Entrance includes a guided tour of the cave, access to the Aurignacian Gallery, the “Animal, from Prehistory to Street Art” show, and workshops held during the holidays and weekends in April to October.

Also enjoy the restaurant and its panoramic view, open all year round, as well as the bookstore and its more than 1000 references.
