The village of Laveyrune

Home/The village of Laveyrune
“Veyrune” means living water in the local patois. Village of tradition and authenticity, still marked by a heritage and a rich history. A discovery full of curiosity and charm.

Description

This town is heavily populated by the Atlantic: all its waterways flow into the Allier, a 1st category river.
It was on the Régordane way, in the XNUMXth century, a stage of choice for muleteers.
La Veyrune was a priory of the abbey of Chambons.
At the top called "of the Three Lords" the legend says that the latter would have inscribed their coat of arms after having chased the English from the castle of Luc.
In 1324 English troops 2000 strong besieged the castle of Luc.
The 3 Lords of the co-barony of Luc (Polignac, Bourbal de Choisinet and Agrain des Hubacs) routed the Bretons and pursued them.
But the English turned around and he then engaged in a fierce battle on the land of the Hubacs.
The 3 Lords were rescued by 10 local gentlemen and won the victory.
The said lords then had their weapons engraved on 3 large granite stones at the top of the rocks.
You can get there on foot.
