Description

The Tchier de Borée, a work by Fabienne and Serge Boyer, is composed of 70 engraved stones arranged in a circle 80 meters in diameter. Blending art, symbolism, and landscape, this contemporary stone calendar invites contemplation at the foot of the Mézenc mountain.

Geo Side:
The Tchier de Borée is a contemporary artwork situated in the heart of the volcanic landscapes of the Boutières region. Created in 2008 by Fabienne and Serge Boÿer, this megalithic installation comprises 70 standing stones arranged in a circle 80 meters in diameter. Each stone bears a symbol or message: runes, astrological signs, natural elements (air, water, fire, earth), winds, mythology… The word “Tchier” (from the local dialect) means “pile of stones”: a tribute to stone, time, and the memory of the land.
From the Tchier, the hiker enjoys a wide panorama which reveals the majestic Mont Mézenc, the highest point of the Ardèche, the Suc de Sara, as well as the Gouleyou and the famous Mont Gerbier-de-Jonc, a true emblem of the Ardèche Mountains.
Hiking side:
The panorama on the horizon, between different peaks and nearby Mont Mézenc, offers a setting conducive to hiking and contemplation.
The Tchier de Borée is easily accessible from the village on foot or by car (parking nearby). It is also an ideal stopping point for hiking in the wild landscapes of Mézenc.
– Loop 13 passes through the Tchier. Starting from the village, it combines views of the Mézenc, the Gerbier de Jonc and the Eysse valley, built heritage with the hamlets of Échamps with their slate and thatched roofs, a dolmen, and the impressive “Roches de Borée”. A route that combines nature, culture and geology. (2h)
– The Roches de Borée hike offers a route starting from the village, between stone hamlets, forests and volcanic formations, with remarkable viewpoints.
