Description
The five volcanic peaks are dome-shaped Pelean volcanoes of the same family as the famous Mont Gerbier-de-Jonc. Their names are: Montfol, Sépoux, Séponet, Taupernas and Lauzière.
From a geographical perspective: A Pelean volcano is an extrusive type, meaning it involves viscous magma, relatively low in gas, which builds domes. Depending on the viscosity of the lava, the domes can form in various shapes.
Hiking: The five volcanic peaks can be explored via the Five Peaks Hike, a loop starting from the Col de la Clède pass offering sweeping panoramas of the Ardèche mountains. Other routes also allow you to explore this massif, such as the Tour du Montfol or the Suc de la Lauzière walk, ideal for a shorter exploration of the volcanic landscapes.
